Living the Christian Life Magazine
The Christmas period in the worlds eye view is one in which often celebration and pleasure seeking is the primary objective. Not of celebrating the coming of the Savior of the world, but one of pleasure and self indulgence, the consequences of this pleasure seeking often results in conflict in strife, of broken relationships, of debt and misery..The true meaning of Christmas “of peace to the world” is far from the minds of these pleasure seeking people.
So what is the real gift of Christmas, can it bring peace to a broken world were conflict and strife are a regular event, can it bring healing in marriage and family relationships. The Old Testament Scriptures make some astounding claims about the Christmas story. It has been said that if Christ had not had existed, then the mind that made him up must have been just has great as the claims for His existent.
The Christmas story does not concern the entrance of children into the world, but the entrance of one particular Child. He was the Great Light in His birth and, as such, shone “upon” and not “within” every man.
God's delights are with the sons of men; therefore He became a Man; and He became, and is, their peace. So man could learn all of God in a Man—that is, in “the Man Christ Jesus”. (See Col. 1. 13-19.)
He is the Prince of Peace who came to a world in darkness and lacking true peace, (see John Ch.14:27-31) Man does not have the answer to the turmoil this world finds itself in today, the politicians are lost to find solutions to peace, and yet when peace comes is often so fragile.
It was the birth of one particular Child that was the Great-Light, which coming into the world shone upon its moral darkness. But the moral darkness of mankind refused this Light; men loved darkness rather than the Light, they nailed Him to a tree so proved that man in his natural state is devoid of the Spirit of God. See the (Gospel of John ch1)
There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John ch1:9-12)NIV
But for those who put their trust in this “Great Light” the Savior of mankind, find a spiritual hope and a peace that is a life changing experience. That even in the midst of difficulties can find assurance and peace.
A very dear friend had to be hospitalised because of a long standing medical problem in which she had managed to keep stabilized for the last fifty years. But medication was no longer able to control the problem anymore.
She had to come to the realization that surgery would be the only answer, while those close to her were fearful and anxious yet she had that quiet assurance that no matter what was to follow she was a peace .that transcends human thinking
She penned these great words
Trusting
I’m in a situation and could be gripped by fear.
But Jesus is beside me, I know that He is here.
His presence goes before me in all that will take place.
My days are in His hands and He will not forsake.
Be strong courageous, trusting is what He asks of me.
Believing in His promise to keep me constantly.
