The Tri-unity of God’s Holiness

In the case of human beings there is a division of nature, essence, and being, but not so with God and could not be. The attributes of each member of this tri-unity could not be possessed without all other divine attributes. The equality of each member is such that each one is recognized as God

The Trinity of God can be described as:-  “In the nature of the one God there are three eternal distinctions which are represented under the figure of persons, and these three are equal”

Therefore the doctrine of the trinity follows:-  “God is revealed to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being. It does not mean that God merely manifests Himself in three different ways, but there are three distinctions in the Godhead.   (See John 1:1-2, Rev 22:13-14, Heb 9:14)

Colossians remind us   “For it was the Fathers good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him. And through Him to reconcile all things to Himself” (Col 1:19-20)

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the

The Throne of Grace (v5-7)

The passage is a glorious piece of God’s word, the foundation of everything – that God who is holy.

That God is the central one in all salvation and in life; Isaiah’s view of God in this respect permanently changed his life. It brought a new awareness of sin (v5-7) until we see God’s holiness, our view of life is satisfactory and our sin is seen as trivial and not needing radical surgery just a makeover. But when Isaiah was confronted with God’s holiness he soon realized his own sinfulness. His life was exposed, it is when we have this exalted view of God, that we become humbled (v5)

We cannot know God’s holiness until we see our own desperate condition. Isaiah cries out for mercy which brings      Conviction – Confession – Cleansing.

This section shifts from God’s Glory to the altar of God’s throne, (v6)   The altar of sacrifice. It reminds of Calvary, the blood sacrifice in cleansing the sinner.

The Holy Spirit in these verses responds to Isaiah’s confession “Your iniquity is taken away and your sin is forgiven”

The living coal from off the altar of burnt offering symbolizing the fire of the wrath of God and the blood of the Lamb of God when brought in contact with his unclean lip removed his iniquity and expiated his sin.

There is no other way of cleansing and expiration than through the wrath of God and the atoning blood of Christ glorified and revealed at Calvary.

There God judged sin infinitely and eternally in the person of Christ and precious blood shed is the only perfect expiration for, and covering of sin.-  Isaiah Ch 52 v10 reminds - “The LORD has bared His holy arm in the sight of all the nations. That all the ends of the earth may see the salvation of our God”.

Isaiah is commissioned to his ministry, but he is warned the people will not respond. Yet God was still willing to extend His mercy to “bare His holy arm”

God’s radiated Light came into the world, to enlighten every man, although the world was made through Him, and in  Him all the fullness of God dwelled, yet the world at large rejected Him,

“Their hearts were hardened”. The glorious truth of the gospel is still being denied in our day.

Yet the shoots of revival (v13) speak of hope in the Savior a root out of the stump of Jessie. We need a new realism of sin, that it awakens our slumber and prompts our obedience.
